Pinellas County Fertilizer Ordinance

June 1 – September 30

Say NO to Nitrogen (N) & Phosphorous (P)! The sale/use of lawn and landscape fertilizers containing N or P are prohibited in order to protect Pinellas County waters from harmful algae blooms.

October 1 – May 31

Fertilizers may be sold and used as long as the granules are 50% slow-release nitrogen and all fertilizers must be used AT LEAST ten (10) feet away from water.

Tips for Homeowners

Hard surfaces like roads, driveways, and parking lots drain to our local waterways. Any spilled fertilizer must be cleaned up or blow back into the landscape. Mow so that the mower shoot faces away from hard surfaces or water. Keep all yard debris out of storm drains, ditches, surface waters, and roadways. Compost it, bag it, or blow it back into the yard.

Please refer to Pinellas County Code Chapter 58, Article XIII for additional information.
